Bible Study Notes

Tonight we are looking at how the Bible came into the English language and how it
developed into the translations we use today. What we will see is not just history, but
sacrifice, struggle, and God’s faithfulness in making His Word available to His people.

To understand how the Old Testament text was transmitted through Hebrew manuscripts, scribal tradition, and the work of the Massoretes; to examine the importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls in confirming the reliability of Scripture; and to reflect spiritually during the Lenten season on our responsibility to cherish, trust, and live the Word God has faithfully preserved.

To understand why ancient translations of the New Testament matter, how they function as secondary witnesses to the Greek text, how the Syriac, Coptic, and Latin versions help us trace the early history, spread, and stability of the New Testament text, and to clearly understand the role, significance, and lasting impact of Jerome in the transmission of Scripture.

This chapter invites us to slow down and appreciate something we often take for granted—the Bible itself. Before we argue theology, quote verses, or stand on promises, Chapter 2 calls us to look at how God chose to reveal Himself across time. The Bible did not appear fully formed in one moment; it was born through history, shaped through human hands, and safeguarded by divine purpose.

This session completes the Introduction to the series and begins Chapter 1 of the book.

This study is designed to strengthen confidence in Scripture by examining how God revealed His Word, how it was recognized as Scripture, and how it has been faithfully preserved through history.
